Cousins! By September, baby Joanna will have nine of them: seven girls and two boys. And two of those girls will be born in 2019! We love that no matter what size God has in mind for our immediate family, she will always have a gaggle of playmates to grow up with! My little Ruthie is already so smitten with Jo, it melts my heart.
March 30: We talk on the phone for the first time with a birth mother who is interested in a match. Also, we put an offer on a house!
March 31st: We are officially matched with the birth mother, who is having a baby girl in Charlotte, NC.
May 3: We place our little house on the market.
May 10: We close on the new house.
May 19: We drive up to Charlotte, the car full of hand-me-down baby clothes, gifted baby necessities and a gently used car seat (thank you, @sylbass @hartleyjglass @0letcrochet @vhjeff).
May 20: Baby Joanna is born, and we have the privilege of our own hospital room with the baby. We spend time with both her and her wonderful birth mother, and wonder at all the ways our lives are changing.
May 23: We are discharged from the hospital and move into an airbnb. Our parents meet us in Charlotte and we are all together in a rented house, loving on the new babe. We also enjoy sweet visits from godparents @aesthetestudio and @tpgrantham, plus surprise visit from Miss Adaiwa @adairswayze
May 29: We receive news that NC has cleared us to cross state lines. We spend a very hairy six and a half hours getting back to Atlanta with a ten day old (couldn't have done it without @chobgood3 !)
June 8: After just one week in our old house, we move to the new house in the pouring rain. At the same time, our INCREDIBLE realtor is negotiating the sale of the old house, and we go under contract that afternoon. @hilaryayoung ~~~~ Today is June 17, and I really can't believe it. The whole month of April I felt May would never come, and somehow it did, and now we are home and covered with the love and joy of friends and family. And I would like to express our deep and everlasting gratitude to everyone who cheered us on and are so happy for us and love Joanna just as much as we do. God is gracious, not only when he grants us our heart's desire, but also when he asks us to wait, when he allows suffering and invites us to grow in faithfulness, and ultimately when he shows us his plans for our souls far exceed our every expectation. One final closing thought and that is if you haven't started a devotion to St. Joseph, you should get on that ASAP. 😂
Happy birthday to the handsomest hero of a father. Baby Joey and I love you a lots. @hilljeffries
