My Favorite Inspiring Author Quotes
I really hit a rut this week. So I cried to Husband Hill. And then I cried to my sister and my mom. And then I read inspiring quotes! If you need a pick-me-up like me, or just love golden quotations, here are a few of my favorites.
“It starts with this: put your desk in the corner, and every time you sit down there to write, remind yourself why it isn't in the middle of the room. Life isn't a support system for art. It's the other way around.” – Stephen King, On Writing
“In a thrilling novel (that purely Christian product) the hero is not eaten by cannibals; but it is essential to the existence of the thrill that he might be eaten by cannibals. The hero must (so to speak) be an eatable hero.” – G.K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy.
“There is a necessary gestation period during which a writer should protect his work, because the minute he sends it out, or joins a writing group, or enrolls in an MFA program, he engages the part of himself that is focused on the result more than the work.” – Betsy Lerner, The Forest for the Trees
“You have to know how to accept rejection and reject acceptance.” – Ray Bradbury
“I love my rejection slips. They show me I try.” – Sylvia Plath
“If you don’t know how to pronounce a word, say it loud! Why compound ignorance with inaudibility?” – William Strunk, Jr.
“Because when you are imagining, you might as well imagine something worth while.” ― L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables
“No book is really worth reading at the age of ten which is not equally – and often far more – worth reading at the age of fifty and beyond.” ― C.S. Lewis
“It was pride that changed angels into devils; it is humility that makes men as angels.” – St. Augustine (he’s an author, too!)
“If ever there is tomorrow when we’re not together … there is something you must always remember. You’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is … even if we’re apart, I’ll always be with you.” – A.A. Milne

Quotation hunger yet unsatisfied? I give you a quotation from my prayer journal.
“Why do I cry? I am me!” – Me, Prayer Journal, October 5, 2010.
Really powerful stuff. I hope you learned something.
